Sharmeen Khan is a Director at the Loudon Interim HealthCare a home health care agency that works to provide patient centered and personalized care to each individuals needs regarding home health.
The interview
Question: What led you to make the decision to work in the health care field and as a director of Interim Health ? I asked her this question to obtain a more in depth understanding of her interest, what mindset she had when choosing her current career and how I could apply that to my search.
Ms. Sharmeen Khan's: Originally she majored in IT. After she graduated she worked for the government for a good amount of time (several years) before she left that form of work. She stated she was looking for a job that provided her with a higher sense of self satisfaction that you can find from helping others. That's why she chose her career as a director in health care services.
Question: what a typical day looked like for her? With this question I wanted to find out more about what the schedule was for her and get a better visual of what her profession looked like through her eyes.
Ms. Sharmeen Khan: Answered the question by explaining to me there are two types of days in her profession, days where she is managing from the work place working on documents, taking calls and coordinating plans and there other days where she has to do more physical outreach speaking to patients and their families going to see and help them.
Question: What do you enjoy most about working with patients on a daily basis ? With this question I was simply trying to find out her perspective or the rewards she feels she obtains from her work. In response to this question.
Ms. Sharmeen Khan: Her favorite part is seeing the patients happiness or smiles at the end of the day knowing she was able to help them by matching them with the right provider.
Question: If you could start over in your professional pathway again what changes would you make ? With this question the goal was to obtain some advice on what I should be trying to find when deciding on a profession.
Ms. Sharmeen Khan: responded that if she could go back maybe she would try to major in something more people oriented allowing her to find her balance between professional and private life not just finding a profession that will be the most rewarding financially but also self rewarding.
